PV alum helps Butte pick up win against Delta

The Butte College men’s soccer team defeated Delta College 2-0 Tuesday at home, led by a pair of goals by Juan Monge.

Pleasant Valley alumnus Austin Matthews recorded seven saves in goal for the Roadrunner­s in his second shutout of the season.

Romain Jantcheu recorded two assists and Simon Huebner added one assist for Butte.

Butte (4-2) plays next at noon Friday at home against Lassen.

College women’s golf CHICO STATE AT BIRDIE FEST INVITE

Chico State finished sixth in the two-day tournament Monday and Tuesday in San Rafael.

Taylor Stewart was the top finisher for the Wildcats, finishing tied for 15th place with a 9-over par 151. Teammates Trinity Hernandez and Natalie Kinney finished 13-over par 155.

Chico State will next compete Monday and Tuesday at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.

Pleasant Valley defeated Corning on the road Tuesday. Riley Kucich scored first on an unassisted goal for the Vikings.

In the fourth quarter PV’s Brooklyn Longueira scored on a short corner assist by Ellie Gallaty. Kendall Greytok scored the final goal for the Vikings on a assist by Ari Steinbach.

Savannah Cresswell had one save in the win for PV (4-1).

Pleasant Valley plays next at 2:45 p.m. Friday at home against Lassen.

Alexis Sprotte and Hannah Hanf won their singles matches for the Vikings on Tuesday.

In doubles, the team of Sprotte and Lauren Needles was victorious.

PV (4-3, 2-2 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Shasta High.

Pleasant Valley won in straight sets Tuesday, defeating Red Bluff 25-15, 25-13, 25-9.

Emma Daugherty led the Vikings in kills with eight and

Kenna Chapin added six kills.

Delaney Thau had six aces for PV and Daugherty contribute­d five aces from the service line.

Alli Mimbs helped set up the Viking attack leading in assists with 12, with Thau adding 10 assists. Chapin led in digs with 14.

PV (4-9, 1-1 EAL) plays next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Nevada Union.
