Chico field hockey shuts out Corning

PV volleyball wins in five sets over Nevada Union

The Chico High field hockey defeated Corning 4-0 at home Thursday night.

Fiona Nelson scored first for the Panthers in the first quarter on an assist by Melia Bainbridge. Less than two minutes later Isabella Valle-Snyder scored on an assist by JoJo Bishop for Chico.

In the fourth quarter Anderson Munson-Clark scored on Bishop’s second assist of the game. The final score of the game came on a goal from Portia Downey on an assist by Grace Kizirian.

Panthers coach Kim Keyawa credited Ainsley Starmer, Quincy Shern and Teresa Mendonca with

strong play on defense in the shutout.

Goalies Natalie Larrance-Potkin and Ruby Keesey had a combined shutout for the Panthers.

Chico (4-2) plays next at noon Saturday at home against Lassen.

PLEASANT VALLEY 3, NEVADA UNION 2 » Pleasant

Valley won on the road Thursday by a score of 2517, 25-12, 17-25, 22-25, 15-11.

Seniors Delaney Thau and Emma Daugherty led the Vikings in kills with 11 apiece and sophomore Sophia Winter added nine kills.

Sophomore Kendal Thau and junior Alli Mimbs had five aces each and Mimbs led in assists with 29. On defense Delaney Thau had 20 digs, Kenna Chapin had 19 digs, Daughterty had 16 digs and Mimbs had 15 digs.

Pleasant Valley (5-9, 1-1 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Foothill.

Prep girls golf

GRAPE RANCH GOLF COURSE » Both Chico High and Pleasant Valley, along with Red Bluff, Shasta, Enterprise and Foothill competed Thursday in Palo Cedro.

Chico’s Makayla Low Carpenter shot a team-low 51, followed by Amy Burchett’s 54 and Paige Connors’ 58.

PV’s team won the event shooting a 233, followed by Chico’s 303 and Red Bluff’s 304.

No individual stats were recorded for Pleasant Valley.

Chico plays next on Monday at the Helen Lengfield Memorial Tournament held at Wilcox Oaks.
