Martellaro reclaims the Championship

- Ed Anderson

Susan Martellaro reclaimed the Butte Creek Women’s Club Championship, shooting three stellar rounds, for a total score of 247. It’s been a seesaw battle between Martellaro and Debbie Maderos the past few years for the title. Last year Maderos won her 22nd title, defeating Martellaro on the final hole. Martellaro was not to be denied this year. She was out in front, leading wire-to-wire all three rounds. Martellaro will now have her own private parking space, but that perk is somewhat moot since she lives less than 200 yards from the club house. Sherri Kimmelshue was low net in the championship flight with a score of 223, barely edging out Martellaro in the net category by three strokes. Joan Bequette took second net in the championship flight with a score of 237.

Sheila McMurphy was low gross in the two-day senior flight with a score of 191. Kay Kurdziel won low net with a

score of 148. Taking second in the senior division, with a net score of 158, was Shirley Leighty.

Canyon Oaks CC

The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club hosted the Annual Pink Ribbon Open Tournament last week. As in the past, the tournament was a huge success, not only in money raised, but by participation as well. The women’s division winning team was the Carney family; Shelley, Katrina, Catherine and Carlee, with a team net score of 57.6 in the fourperson scramble format. The men’s division winning team: Terry and Cooper Koslofsky, Sam Harvey and Nathan Johnson, with a net score of 51.9.

Mixed division: 1, Scott Borges, Steve Simpson, Kathy Sullivan and Paul McIntosh, 49.9; 2, Logan Gough, Lachlin McKenzie, Stan Gungl and a blind draw, with a score of 51.3; 3, Melinda Self, Sue Heimann, James Sprotte and Rio Nowak, 52.7.

The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club also held its weekly tournament called “Hate’em”, wherein players could eliminate two holes prior to the start of the round. Closest to pin on No. 14: Pearson (only player to hit the green). It was obviously Pearson’s day to be on the course.
