Chico High, PV tennis clinch EAL playoff spots

The Pleasant Valley girls tennis team clinched a playoff spot Tuesday with a 9-0 win against Red Bluff in Chico.

In singles Maddux Wilson, Morgan Telegan, Nia Billyos, Mariah Letcher, Hannah Hanf and Alexis Sprotte won their matches.

In doubles the teams of Wilson and Telegan, Billyos and Letcher, and Tatiana Lizarraga and Kyla Cambell won.

PV (6-4, 4-3 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Foothill.

CHICO HIGH 9, SHASTA 0 » Chico High clinched an Eastern Athletic League title with a win at home Wednesday.

Paige Sitanggang, Sydney Vaughn, Skylar Granlund, Julia McGarva, Aubrey Layland and Kaylee Morehead won in singles for the Panthers.

In doubles, the teams of Sitanggang and Vaughn, Granlund and Addison Fowkes, and Alexa Agnew and Clare Schaefer won.

Chico plays next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Enterprise.

College golf

CHICO STATE AT SONOMA STATE FALL INVITE » The Chico State women’s golf team finished its fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule Tuesday in Sonoma.

The Wildcats finished in 12th place as a team, totaling a score of 97-over 673 through the 36 hole two-day event.

Kelsey Blaylock and Taylor Stewart tied for the lowest score for Chico State, carding a 22-over par 166. Trinity Hernandez shot a 26-over par 170.

Chico State competes next on February 14, 2022 in Stockton at the Brookside Country Club.

College men’s soccer BUTTE 4, LAKE TAHOE COMMUNITY

COLLEGE 0 » Butte won on the road Tuesday in Lake Tahoe.

Alexander Hjulmand scored the lone first half goal for Butte on an assist from Adolfo Martinez. In the second half, Trevor Sander scored on an assist from Hjulmand, Romain Jantcheu scored on an assist from Antoine Joblet and Jovani Casillas scored on an assist from Alex Strom.

Butte’s defense limited Lake Tahoe to three shots, and Roadrunner­s goalkeeper Austin Matthews recorded two saves.

Butte (7-2-1, 3-0 Golden Valley Conference) plays next at 2 p.m. Tuesday at home against Feather River College.
