CHICO » A man who police say announced his intent to murder a member of his family allegedly forced his way into a residence on the 700 block of East Lassen Avenue Tuesday night.

The Chico Police Department received a call that an intruder was at a home at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the department. The man, who police say they identified as Lawrence Howes, allegedly forced his way into a woman's residence and knocked her down. Police say he threatened to kill a man who did not live at that home.

Police located Howes, 57, outside of the victim's residence. He was allegedly armed with a pellet pistol, knife and a box cutter. Officers say they learned through an investigation that Howes went to a second residence with the pellet pistol.
