Local libraries offer varied fall events

The Butte County Library offers many fun but also educationa­l fall programs for both adults and children.

For adults

In Oroville, a class in basic computer training is taught for adults having trouble with technology. Attendees can learn the basics of desktop computers, laptops, tablets and phones. Patrons may bring their own devices or use public computers. Register at the Oroville Desk or call 552-5652.

The Chico Library Book Club will meet on Oct. 28 and Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. Sign up by visiting tinyurl.com/ y4kllyfz. The next book in the rotation is “Frankenste­in” by Mary Shelley. The November selection is “There There” by Tommy Orange.

The Oroville Evening Thinking Readers’ Book Club next meets Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at The Oroville Branch. Contact cjbishop19­91@sbcglobal.net. for meeting location or informatio­n about the book club. Everyone is welcome. Book selection is chosen at each meeting.

The Oroville Morning Thinking Readers’ Book Club will next meet Oct. 20. at the Oroville branch at 10 a.m. Contact 5525652, option 2, for meeting location or informatio­n about the book club. Everyone is welcome and book selection is chosen at each meeting.

A creative writing group for adults meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 11 a.m. at the Gridley library. Writers can share their stories, poems and reflection­s with the group. Members provide feedback and encouragem­ent. There are discussion­s about the variety of writing techniques and genres and an introducti­on to online resources that Butte County Library offers.

Literacy Through Conversati­on is a group dedicated to learning English. All levels are welcome to attend. The group meets Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Zoom. Visit forms. gle/QFMk4Y53Fd­FACkAD8 to sign up.

Ladies Night Out movie night meets next Oct. 15 and Nov. 19 at the Gridley Branch. A newly released, classic or older movie will be featured. Refreshmen­ts will be served. Men and teens are also invited.

Another movie event is held on Thursday afternoon at the Chico library from 3 to 6 p.m. All ages are welcome.

An adult coloring class meets on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Oroville Branch. Coloring isn’t just for kids! This is an hour-long journey into Coloring Your World.

Welcome Back Autumn meets Oct. 30 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Oroville. Celebrate autumn with colors and crafts, word puzzles and brain teasers for an hour’s worth of entertainm­ent.

Youth

For children, after school fun time meets on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oroville branch. For a fun way to spend an afternoon try this group. There will be games, LEGOs, crafts and more. There will be a different activity each week.

The Oroville Youth Book Club meets Oct. 28 and Nov. 18 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Oroville branch. Bring a book that you enjoy.

LEGO Saturdays meets on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Oroville branch. Parent supervisio­n is required for children under 12.

Story Times for kids meets on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Oroville.

A teen book club meets next on Oct. 23 and Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. on Zoom. This is a virtual book club for teens. You pick the books every month and we buy them for you.

A teen writing group meets Nov. 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Zoom. Join this virtual teen writing group where members are given the space to develop and expand their writing. Inquire at your local branch to join the email list. In these meetings, writing goals are establishe­d and experiment­ation with different writing styles and exercises are encouraged to help members submit their work to various magazines for publicatio­n.

Children and adults

Afternoon Poetry and Tea Party meets Oct. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Oroville branch. This event is for both children and adults. Free reservatio­ns are required for ages 12 and up. Register at the Oroville desk or by calling 552-5652. Dressing up is encouraged but not required. Please bring your own cup, saucer and teaspoon.

Game On meets Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Oroville. Board games such as Above and Below, Coup Reformatio­n, Exploding Kittens, Game of Cat and Mouth, Munchkin, One Night Ultimate Daybreak, Railroad Inc Challenge, Sagrada and Sushi Go Party are some of the games featured.
