Chico State ties for fifth at Wildcat Classic
The Chico State men’s golf team finished tied for fifth place after the two day Wildcat Classic on Monday and Tuesday at The Links at Rolling Hills golf course in Corning.
Stanislaus State won the tournament with a 21-over par 597. Academy of Art’s Matthew Watkins finished as the top individual, shooting 2-over par 146 for the tournament.
With gusty winds both Monday and Tuesday, Christopher Colla, the defending champion from Chico State, finished tied for fourth after two rounds after shooting a 6-over par 150.
Chico State’s Mark Noonan and Mike Stephens tied at 11over par 155, and Dakota Ochoa shot a 15-over par 159.
Chico State will compete next Monday and Tuesday at the Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Golf Course in Seaside.
College men’s soccer
FEATHER RIVER 3, BUTTE 2 » Butte lost on the road Tuesday. Sander Trevor and Juan Monge each had a goal for the Roadrunners. Monge and Alex Hjulmand had one assist each.
In goal for Butte, Austin Matthews recorded three saves.
Butte (7-3-1, 3-1 Golden Valley Conference) plays next at 4 p.m. Friday at College of the Siskiyous.

» Pleasant Valley won Tuesday at home 25-10, 25-16, 25-10 on Fight Like a Viking night.
Emma Daugherty led PV in kills with 10 and Sophia Winter had seven kills.
Delaney Thau had seven aces for the Vikings, and Keira Maguire and Daugherty added six aces apiece.
On defense Thau had a team-high 12 digs and 18 return of serves for PV. Kendal Thau and Kenna Chapin had 10 digs each. Keira Maguire led PV in assists with 26.
PV (12-13, 5-2 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Foothill (15-5, 7-0 EAL).
Prep girls tennis
CHICO HIGH 9, FOOTHILL 0 » Chico High won Tuesday at home.
Paige Sittanggang, Sydney Vaughn, Skylar Granlund, Aubrey Leyland, Kylee Leete and Taylor Seidenstricker won in singles for the Panthers.
In doubles the teams of Sittanggang and Julia McGarva, Addison Fowkes and Kaylee Morehead, and Alexa Agnew and Clare Shaefer were all victorious.
Chico High (10-0) plays next on Oct. 23 at the Northern Section Division I team championships semifinals.
SHASTA 6, PLEASANT VALLEY 3 » Pleasant Valley (67, 4-5 EAL) lost at home Tuesday.
In singles Mariah Letcher and Alexis Sprotte won their matches, and in doubles the team of Kyla Campbell and Rosa Krabbenhoeft won.
