Credit to council for moderate decisions

-

The Chico city council deserves credit for declaring a shelter crisis, and for agreeing to fund the cost of CHAT’s Everhart Village sewer fees.

The declaration of the shelter crisis creates a pathway to currently needed flexibility for temporary housing for the homeless.

Sewer fees can’t be “waived,” because they are used to pay for an actual cost. In this case, council authorized staff to find another funding source. This was a reasonable solution to the high cost of construction for housing — even for tiny homes.

The council is labeled conservative, but their ultimate decisions are moderate when you really think about them.
