Cemetery tour

-

Other than 2020— the “Year of COVID” — the annual trek by students in Michael Magliari’s Archival History class is now in its eighth year — an annual event since 2013. The tour was once again hosted by Chico Cemetery Association on Aug. 25, for firsttime research of a Civil War soldier. Shown left to right are Magliari, students Cameo Calderon and Michaela Ricketts, and leading the tour in the Grand Army of the Republic section was Clark Masters, CCA employee, far right. The GAR section was set aside for the interment of Union soldiers who moved to California in the years after the war. This fall semester each student had two names assigned to them for research with the goal of developing a complete biography of the individual for whom they could find the most information. The students who completed their biographies in past years have provided a copy for Chico State’s Meriam Library archives, as well as both a digital and hard copy for the CCA records, to augment the source material for community members or families who might be searching for “Grandpa John.”
