Morgan representing his constituents

-

I read with interest Mr. Ory’s recent letter to the E-R regarding the city’s missed opportunities in gaining tax revenue from cannabis stores inside the city.

Mr. Ory, with all due respect, because you have made significant contributions to our city, you, and many like you, just don’t get it. You put down Councilman Sean Morgan because of his Republican, anti-cannabis position. Have you ever thought that people like Mr. Morgan, are doing what they were elected to do? That is to REPRESENT the will of their constituents. It doesn’t matter what your personal agenda is, what matters is that you follow the will of the people you represent. That is truly what a democracy is all about, and I applaud Mr. Morgan for voicing the will of his council district.

Many of us within the city don’t agree with your tax and spend ideas. We have tried, without success, to throw money at the homeless problem. We haven’t seen any positive results. We have seen that the homeless problem, our city’s biggest problem, has a strong, undeniable link to drug use. Mr. Morgan’s constituents are saying that rather than gaining more tax dollars, their favored solution is to reduce drugs, including “starter” drugs like cannabis. I’m not saying they are right are wrong, but it is right for Mr. Morgan to represent the will of his constituents. It’s the framework our nation was built upon.
