Chico State to hold prescription drug take back event

-

The Chico State University Police Department is planning a drug take back event at the campus in an effort to encourage people to turn over medication.

Participants can drive up to the roundabout at West 2nd Street and Normal Avenue from 100 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday and Friday to drop off expired or unwanted medication, said a press release issued Tuesday by the university.

According to the release, no questions will be asked of those dropping off the prescriptions. Medications can be disposed of via a drop off box.

Those collecting will accept prescription medication, over-the-counter pills, liquid medication, vitamins, pet medication and vaping devices as long as the battery has been taken out.

On the flipside, needles, thermometers, chemotherapy or radioactive substances and oxygen or inhalers will not be accepted at the location.

The event will continue to be held twice per year.
