PV field hockey wins Stick it to Cancer game

With both teams wearing pink, the Pleasant Valley field hockey team defeated Corning 1-0 on Monday in the Vikings’ annual Stick it to Cancer game.

Pleasant Valley took the lead in the first quarter on a goal from Riley Kucich, on an assist from Brooklyn Longueira.

With PV’s offense controllin­g the ball most of the game, goalkeeper Savannah Cresswell received no shots on goal in the Vikings’ eighth shutout of the season. PV coach Bill Flory said the defensive effort was led by Ellie Gallaty, Anna Isherwood and Longueira.

PV (11-4, 11-3 Eastern Athletic League) plays its final match of the regular season at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Red Bluff.

College men’s soccer CHICO STATE 1, STANISLAUS STATE

Jian Perez scored his first collegiate goal for the Wildcats in the first half of Sunday’s home win. Liam Duerksen got his teamleadin­g fifth assist of the season. Sophomore Mauro Rafael also got

an assist on the goal, his first of the season.

Chico State outshot Stanislaus 11-7, and Wildcats goalkeeper Luis Albarran recorded three saves.

CHICO STATE 0, STANISLAUS STATE 0 » Chico State and Stanislaus state finished with a scoreless draw after double overtime Sunday at Chico State.

Chico State outshot Stanislaus 17-14, and 7-6 in shots on goal.

Camille Lidster led the Wildcats with seven shots, three on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Hoffman recorded six saves, and Stanislaus State goalkeeper Amanda Leal recorded seven saves.

3-1-2 CCAA) plays next at 4:30 p.m. Friday at home against San Francisco State.
