Chico High’s field hockey squad beats Corning in final road game

The Chico High field hockey team finished its final road trip of the season with a 2-1 win Wednesday in Corning.

Both of the Panthers’ goals came in the first quarter. Kylah Smith scored first for Chico on an assist by Kylie Gutman. The next goal game from Camille Irons on Gutman’s second assist of the game.

Chico coach Kim Keyawa credited Camille Irons,

Sophia Pennisi and Ainsley Starmer with strong defensive play in the win.

Goalkeeper Ruby Keesey had three saves, Natalie Larrance-Potkin had two saves and Quincy Shern had one defensive save.

Chico High (9-4) plays next at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in its alumni game, before the Panthers’ final match of the regular season at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Red Bluff.

College volleyball

FEATHER RIVER 3, BUTTE 0 » Butte snapped its six match winning streak with a road loss Wednesday. The Roadrunner­s lost 25-20, 25-13, 25-22.

Butte (13-4, 3-1 Golden Valley Conference) play next at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Sierra College.
