Controlled burn to take place at airport

A prescribed burn at the Chico Municipal Airport is planned to take place around 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today which will be conducted by Chico Public Works and the Chico Fire Department.

The 185-acre burn is intended to reduce incursions between animals and aircraft; reduce invasive plants around the runway perimeter and will provide a quality wildland training opportunity, according to a Chico Fire Department press release.

The Chico Municipal Airport will remain open during the prescribed burn and aviators will be notified of the burn through an advisory notice to air missions from the Federal Aviation Administration.
