An inevitable march toward nuclear war

-

The world is marching to a nuclear holocaust and no one in power in the West is standing up to try to stop it. Just the opposite. For example, on May 2 Congress signed the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 1922 opening the spigot for an additional $47 billion in arms to Kiev; and on May 4 the European Commission called for a total oil embargo on Russia to smash its financial system.

While a Wall Street Journal headline last week (April 27) read: “The United States should show that it can win a nuclear war.” And the corporate media and PBS simply repeats the United States’ playbook: “Arm Ukraine to ‘weaken “evil” Russia;’” But people here don’t seem to understand where this is headed. Two massively nuclear armed powers are fighting a “proxy war” in Ukraine, with the United States committed to “winning,” and Russia seeing its very existence as a nationstate threaten.

To think that the war will continue to be fought only with “conventional weapons” or will be limited only to Ukraine is naïve, at best! Even assuming Russia gains control of the Donbas and establishes a “ceasefire,” the United States/NATO/ EU will not accept the “status quo.” There will be no let up in the fight to “weaken” Russia; and inevitably nuclear weapons WILL be used. Recognizing that Russia will not accept capitulation to United States hegemony, the near future doesn’t look good for “all living things;” regardless of what one thinks of Russia or Putin.”
