CHICO CEMETERIES HELP REMEMBER LOST ONES
CHICO » Together, Chico Cemetery Association and Glen Oaks Park each set out booths to hand out complimentary carnations and cookies for people visiting their loved ones during the Mother’s Day weekend.
“We help at-need families or people who are experiencing a loss,” said Emily Cunningham, the Family Service Advisor at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. “We help people pre-meet their services. So, when that time comes, people don’t have to meet the weight of the financial burden.
The event was primarily planned by Christina Clerici, Family Service Manager of Glen Oaks Memorial Park, Cunningham said.
“We know people are remembering their mothers, grandmother, sisters and we just want to be here to connect with them and be sure that they don’t enter the park without having a staff member outside who could help them,” said Clerici.
The Glen Oaks Memorial Park saw visitors with both newer and older losses however guests did take advantage of the free flowers and cookies.
Carl Robinson, a volunteer with the Glen Oaks Memorial Park was attending the memorial event for the first time.
“I know that losing someone is a huge traumatic thing in your life and losing your mother could be even worse,” said Robinson. “Anything we can do to help out people on this day sounds like it would be a nice gesture.”
Chico Cemetery Association has been serving Chico since 1852 and Glen Oaks Memorial Park has been since 1969.
