Abortions won’t end, but safe ones will

-

To the surprise of absolutely nobody except gullible Republican senators Collins and Murkowski, all three of Trump’s Supreme Court nominees lied when they testified at their confirmation hearings that Roe v Wade was “settled law” which they had no intention of overturning.

This may come as a shock to some conservatives, but the fact is most people enjoy sex; on any given day, millions of Americans do it for recreation, with no intent of procreation. The vast majority of them use some form of contraception, but no method is 100% effective, not even sterilization. About 9 in every 100 women taking “the pill” get pregnant every year, as do about 18 of every 100 women relying on their partner’s use of a condom.

Approximately 900,000 American women had abortions last year. Contrary to stereotypes, the typical patient is white, married or living with her partner, and already a mother. It’s estimated that 1 in 4 American women will get an abortion during her lifetime.

Every American woman of child bearing age today has ALWAYS had the option of terminating her pregnancy, legally and safely … after a half century, you might even say it’s “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition”

(the phrase Justice Alito inappositely used to justify overturning Roe). Soon, tens of millions of women will lose that right. Abortions won’t stop, but for many, safe ones most certainly will.
