- By Kimberly Morales

PALERMO » A mobile home residence was destroyed along with several other structures on the eastside of Highway 70 on Saturday, according to a CAL FIRE and Butte County Fire Department press release. As of Sunday, there was not a finalized number of buildings that were destroyed and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, said Matt Watson from the CALFIRE Butte Unit.

The fire was reported at 4:02 p.m., off of the 1200 block of Palermo Road, where it was burning a mobile home. The fire later grew to 2.5 acres — burning more vegetation. After a total of 35 personnel, 10 vehicles and one bulldozer were exhausted, the fire was 100% contained.

Of the 10 engines and truck companies, two engines were contributed by the Oroville Fire Department.

Despite the destruction of one residence, no evacuations or road closures were required and all residents were accounted for.

Although the fire burned through three properties, two nearby homes that were threatened were saved from the burning.
