PV golfers sign to Chico State

CHICO » If you’ve followed Pleasant Valley golf over the past year, you’ve seen the success both the girls and boys teams have had.

Both teams’ No. 1 players were seniors — Brooke Peletier for the girls and Landon Williams for the boys — and neither player will be going far. Williams and Peletier signed their letter of intent to continue their golfing careers together at Chico State in a ceremony May 18 at Pleasant Valley.

Williams will be looking to earn a spot on Chico State men’s golf coach Nick Green’s team, while Peletier is on a scholarship on Chico State women’s golf coach Heather Fegley’s team.

“I think that’s motivation,” said Williams’ swing coach Tom Fegley of Williams’ walk-on status. “The coach is giving you a hand up to come on the team and see what you can do and it’s up to you to show him that you’re worthy of that spot and are going to stay long and help the team. Golf is a team sport at the college level so you’ve got to have the individual effort to help make the team better.”

Tom Fegley is a commonality amongst both Williams and Peletier. Fegley, the head golf pro at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico, is the swing coach for Williams and the head girls golf coach at Pleasant Valley. Tom Fegley said his daughter Heather Fegley, the Chico State women’s golf coach, had asked about

Peletier to see if she had an interest in playing.

“Dad comes home and talks golf so she knows what my girls are doing, but there’s a close family relationship with the Peletier family,” Tom Fegley said. “Brooke thought about it long and hard and Chico State was an option, she had a couple other options and by her own decision she decided to stay home with family and friends and play golf at Chico State, so we’re really excited about.”

Williams, whose lowest score of the season was a 70 at Wilcox Oaks Golf Club in Red Bluff on April 28 and May 9 at the NSCIF championship at Rolling Hills in Corning, chose Chico State to pursue a dream he’s had since beginning to take golf
