Corning police looking for man after short pursuit

-

Corning police are looking for a man following a short vehicle pursuit early Tuesday morning. According to a press release issued early Tuesday night, police say that at around 4 a.m., a police officer saw a man sleeping in the driver’s seat of a vehicle near the 700 block of South St.

According to police, the officer engaged the man in a consensual discussion in which the man reportedly refused to provide the officer with his identification but claimed that he was in the area to visit his son and that the vehicle he was in was registered to him.

After talking to the man, the officer requested that dispatch conduct a warrant check on the vehicle’s owner, which police say came back to a man who had a felony warrant. Scott

Huber, 52, of Fortuna, was wanted on a probation violation in Humboldt County stemming from a domestic violence case and a warrant for resisting a law enforcement officer.

The officer attempted to relocate the male, finding him entering his vehicle and driving away. That’s when the officer tried to enforce a traffic stop on the vehicle, but Huber reportedly refused to yield. The pursuit reached speeds of more than 100 mph for several miles, according to Corning police.

The officer discontinued the pursuit when it reached the area of Hwy 99W and Gyle Road, and the officer lost sight of the vehicle. No one was injured, nor was there any property damage suffered in the pursuit, police say. Corning police also said charges are pending with the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office.
