MARY SCHOCK

-

Mary Schock passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022, at the age of 100. She was born to Paul and Sarah Jane McCauley on March 1,1922 and raised in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburg. She graduated from Marion College in Virginia, before marrying the love of her life, John P. Schock, Jr., a mechanical engineer for Johns Manville, on August 1, 1942. After the wedding, the couple moved to Parsons, Kansas, where they lived for two years during which time their daughter, Sally, was born. John’s job then took the family to the San Francisco Bay Area where their two sons, Jack and David, were born, and where they lived for many years before moving to Whittier, California. Upon John’s retirement in 1970, Mary and John moved to South Lake Tahoe, California, where they owned and operated a prosperous Seven Eleven store for over a decade. In 1997, they moved to Katy, Texas to become more involved with their three young granddaughters, Kaitlin, Kelley, and Kacie, just as they had been with their oldest granddaughter, Emily, while she was growing up in Jackson, California. Mary was a completely devoted, loving, and caring mother and grandmother, and raising her family was by far her proudest accomplishment. When her family was young, Mary worked every Christmas season at Joel’s Toy store in Walnut Creek, California, to provide more presents under the tree for her children. Additionally, during that time, Mary sang in her church choir and served as Superintendent of Sunday School. Once her kids entered high school and college, Mary began her career in retail management, and then in Tahoe she worked as a county welfare fraud agent, a realtor, and a real estate broker as well as helping John manage the Seven Eleven. In 1980, Mary fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Behavior from the University of San Francisco. While Mary always worked hard to help support her family, she was also delightfully social and thoroughly enjoyed countless close friendships throughout her life. She adored playing bridge and was quite a skilled player well into her golden years, and she avidly enjoyed traveling the world with John on cruise ships and exploring the country in their RV.

Mary is predeceased by her parents and her husband, John. She is survived by her children, Sarah-Jane Schock Podesta Macauley (Sally) and her husband Patrick of Jackson, CA, John P. Schock, III (Jack) of Lodi, CA, and David Schock and his wife Kathy of Katy, TX; by her grandchildren, Emily Podesta-Brayton and her husband Matthew of Folsom, CA, Kaitlin Angelle and her husband Evan of Houston, TX, Kelley Bearden and her husband Britt of Lubbock, TX, and Kacie Schock and her fiancé Hayden Treu of New York, NY; and by her great grandchildren Elizabeth (Libby) and Carl Brayton, and Anthony and Addison Bearden; and by her sister-in-law Jean Smith of Chico, CA and her nephew Curtis Smith. Mary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her loving family and the many devoted friends who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lodi First United Methodist Church in Lodi, California on Wednesday, March 1, at 11:00 am. The family suggests that memorials may be made in Mary’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your favorite charitable organization.
