Just think what we could do with $100 billion

-

We are now in Year 2 of the War in Ukraine and the US has already spent over $100 billion financing this farce.

Our total defense budget in 2021 was $800 billion which included the usual unbelievable amount of waste.

So one eighth of what we spent to defend our nation is gone to Ukraine. What would people say if asked how we should spend 100 billion dollars? Addressing global warming? Infrastructure improvements? Reducing homelessness? How many do you think would reply, fighting to determine who governs the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine?

And while this continues, the doddering buffoon in the White House pledges to defend Taiwan should it be attacked. Defend it with what? BB guns and slingshots? What few weapons remain in our depleted armaments inventory are being used to shoot down weather balloons. And still the question, “What is our self interest in supporting Ukraine?” remains unanswered. Preventing the spread of Communism? Just like we were told that if we allowed the communists to take over Vietnam their next stop would be Hawaii or our western coast.

We're hearing the same old fear mongering tripe again today and we'll continue to hear it as long as we allow it to work. Aren't the defense contractors currently receiving enough of our money? Hasn't there been enough misery and mayhem to satisfy those who seem to enjoy it? Just because so many in the world wish to engage in endless warfare does not obligate America to participate.

— David White, Oroville development stage where housing is laid out. A land use plan is a framework for future development. That's it. No one knows yet which part of the Specific Plan will be developed first. It depends on local demand. To claim that houses start at $650,000 is pure fabrication. Let's be kind and call it a guess. A guess is not a fact, and signature gatherers positioned these made-up numbers as facts.

Oh, let's add in their fearful misinformation about

“fire threat,” yet the Chico

Fire Chief not only was involved with the plan but recommended it. Referendum organizers should be ashamed of themselves. It begs the question: what else are they lying about? — Tom Bond, Chico in Blue states, and infant mortality rates are lower.

Crime, conversely and perhaps surprisingly, is much higher in Red states. Based on CDC data, the homicide rate in the states Trump won have exceeded those of the states Biden won every year this century, averaging 23% higher. Ruby-red Oklahoma's murder rate in 2020 was almost 50% higher than California's, and almost twice New York's.

Not only are Blue citizens more successful than their Red counterparts, Blue politicians govern more effectively. Over the last 60 years, GDP growth has been 50% higher under Democratic presidents than Republicans, and Democratic presidents have helped create 21 million more jobs than Republicans. On the other hand, unemployment has been 15% higher under Republican presidents, budget deficits have been 54% higher, federal spending has increased twice as much, and the trade deficit is 39% higher.

The real issue in a “national divorce” is who gets custody of the “child,” Ms. Greene, who's apparently too dim to realize that her home state of Georgia is now Blue.

— Scott Paulo, Chico appointees to city committees were actively replaced. Lastminute appointees who have not been vetted by any sort of screening process (other than the city councilor's own personal approval of them) are not qualified to sit on these committees.

I would like to see a discussion put on the city council agenda where this problem is addressed and a motion is made to ban the process of last-minute replacements to the city committees.
