All-league teams announced

Selections voted on by each league’s coaches

- By Justin Couchot jcouchot@chicoer.com

The Pleasant Valley girls and boys basketball teams won the Northern Section title for a third straight season, with the PV boys winning their fifth straight.

However the Chico High boys and girls teams were equally competitive, making for an exciting cross-town rivalry for the NSCIF title in boys and girls basketball at Butte College.

After winning a D-III state title in 2022, the PV boys basketball team was bumped to D-II in 2023 and lost in the second round. Meanwhile Chico High competed in D-IV in the CIF state tournament and made it to the NorCal Final before losing to Half Moon Bay.

The PV girls team made it to the NorCal Finals as well, but an ankle injury to EAL MVP and point guard AJ Gambol in the first half hindered the Vikings against Central. Central went on to win the D-II state championship behind center Talia Maxwell, who had 37 points and 16 rebounds against PV. Maxwell had 24 points and a statechampionship record 24 rebounds in the Grizzlies’ state championship win.

In the Butte View League, Orland and Gridley’s success made for a competitive league, led by co-MVPs Zach Story and Aaron Kullar. Both are juniors and will look to lead their respective teams once again in 2024.

With that said it is time to recognize the success in boys and girls basketball this season, as all-league selections have been released. Here are the area selections provided by the leagues and voted on by the coaches, with MVPs shown when selected.

Stay tuned for a follow up story on all-league soccer selections.
