Sacramento River roadhouse shut down

License revocation notice for Colusa venue says boy was served drinks before his death

-

A Colusa roadhouse lost its liquor license after a patron — a 17-year-old boy — was killed when he fell from his stepfather’s pickup truck as they were driving away.

Slough House Social served alcoholic beverages to the boy as well as the man, said the notice Tuesday from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. on May 19, 2022. The pair, from Montana, had been drinking at Slough House, and video obtained by Sacramento TV station KOVR indicates the boy had ten drinks in the course of 90 minutes, ending with three shots in quick succession. He then got in a confrontation with a bartender, who slapped him and

helped him walk to the parking lot and get in the pickup truck.

Shortly afterward, the California Highway Patrol was called to an accident scene on Butte Slough Road about a mile from the bar. The CHP report said the boy

suffered major injuries when he was ejected out of the passenger window; the stepfather, who had been driving, said the teen jumped from the moving truck. The boy died at the UC Davis Medical Center.

The stepfather, a 65-yearold man from Whitefish, Mont., was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. His blood alcohol level was 0.20%, an initial report said. He pleaded not guilty to felony child endangerment and misdemeanor DUI in a case that is ongoing.

The ABC announcement this week said Slough House is no longer allowed to sell alcohol and that the license will be revoked if it is not transferred within 180 days.

The owners of the establishment — a restaurant and bar on the Sacramento River — announced their “final days” last weekend. An emotional social media post said they were attempting to find new owners who “will carry on what we have built.”
