PV's EAL winning streak snapped

Viking boys beaten by Enterprise in Redding

The Pleasant Valley boys basketball team's streak of 22 straight Eastern Athletic League victories came to an end Thursday when Enterprise defeated the Vikings 55-48 in Redding.

The Vikings' last EAL loss came Feb. 14, 2020 against Enterprise in Redding, a season in which the Vikings went on to win the Northern Section title but finished 20-13 and 6-4 in the EAL.

PV led 30-25 at halftime, but the Hornets outscored the Vikings 30-18 in the second half.

Gavin Garretson led PV with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, in addition to 16 rebounds (nine offensive). Aside from Garretson, the Vikings shot 10-41 (24%). Hayden Rick scored nine points, Isiah Fortune scored eight, Cam Bussey scored six and Malakai Piper scored five.

Enterprise's Alijah Collins and Ja'Kye Rawls led the Hornets with 19 points each. Wes Ramirez scored eight points and had 14 rebounds, and Dashawn Townsend scored six.

PV (12-6, 2-1 EAL) plays next at noon Saturday against McClymonds in the Sheldon Showcase. The Vikings return to EAL play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shasta.

Prep girls basketball

DURHAM 48, PIERCE 44 >> Durham defeated Pierce on Wednesday in Arbuckle.

Payton Santos led the Trojans with 30 points.

Durham (11-7, 3-1 Sacramento Valley League) plays next at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Paradise, before playing at Winters at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

CORNING 4, GRIDLEY 3 >> Corning defeated Gridley on Thursday

Gridley led 2-1 at halftime, but the Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs 3-1 in the second half.

Gridley's Rafaela Anguiano had two goals, and Miranda Johnson led the Bulldogs defensivel­y.
