A great al­ter­na­tive to an ex­pen­sive preda­tor mo­tion de­coy is to use a mo­tor­ized cat toy. Look for one that has a spin­ning an­tenna. Find a cheap model (Ama­zon has them from $5 to $15) and give it a per­sonal touch. Paint it to match your en­vi­ron­ment, and re­place the toy on the an­tenna with a dried wing or tail from lo­cal (and le­gal) prey birds.
