We may all have our own version of Memorial Day this weekend, as Venus opposes Pluto and stirs our hearts, while retrograde Mercury brings our minds back to the past.

Not all is gloomy, though. The surface energy can be light and chatty, with the sun, Mars, and retrograde Mercury running together in verbal Gemini, a sign that encourages us to synthesize information. This Gemini energy can help us think fast when our plans need to be adjusted because Mercury retrograde has thrown us a curveball.

This chatting may actually allow us to process ideas and facts more deeply, which helps with the sense of nostalgia that can be stirred up by the Venus-Pluto opposition. This opposition could also just leave us a little moody but more able to empathize with others.

It’s a good weekend to let community refill our wells. On Friday, the sun opposes Saturn and asks us to catch up with unfinished work. But the moon enters expressive Leo in the afternoon and kicks in that holiday feeling. Saturday and Sunday encourage generosity as the Leo moon conjuncts expansive Jupiter. On Monday, Mars squares confusing Neptune under an industrious Virgo moon and may bring strange crosscurrents, though most of us can channel this discontent into home-improvement projects. The week ends with a more emotionally connected, upbeat Libra moon.

Friday, May 22: Lingering moods from recent events or last night’s dreams leave us tender. Life may seem full of tough choices and strange twists of fate. Midday, our efficiency wanders; it takes willpower to finish up unfinished business. The festive mood picks up by dinner as the moon enters extroverted Leo. Tonight the mood is loud and warm but easily annoyed.

Saturday, May 23: The harder life has been lately, the more we need a moment for renewal. Today is a perfect day off to meander as the moon conjuncts Jupiter. It’s a tough day to stay efficient or travel quickly; keep the schedule expansive, with room for serendipity.

Sunday, May 24: It’s another low-efficiency, high-sociability day. We tend to be generous but self-absorbed; it’s time to return to the self and fill the wells. Try to honor the needs of others.

Monday, May 25: Make a difference as the moon enters nervy Virgo and lengthens our to-do lists. If our situation has been unusually uncomfortable lately, it may be tempting to make a sudden leap sideways or rail against one another. Wait a few weeks, until Mercury is direct, to make long-term decisions. Put discontent to good use.

Tuesday, May 26: Stay calm as the moon squares Mercury and Pluto. Build on one small change after another. People may be cranky as they try to catch up, but the work landscape shifts, and so a sense of accomplishment may be hard to find. Fix, repair, confirm.

Wednesday, May 27: Watch for a sudden, irrational act. Don’t be pushed into an unnecessary decision. Bravely explore possibilities as Mercury conjuncts Mars, but keep the decisions short-term. We may need to bark — but we don’t need to bite. Judicious honesty in the morning can lead to an understanding later as the moon enters egalitarian Libra.

Thursday, May 28: We can find our equilibrium again today, though we may have to send out a search party. Make peace. Balance the composition, as the Libra moon trines the sun, Mercury, and Mars and helps us balance opposing needs, find healthy compromise, and admit we might really love one another.
