Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro; Dover Quartet; Serenata of Santa Fe; guitarist Roberto Capocchi
Jake Shimabukuro is a ukulele player’s ukulele player. The Honolulu-born musician calls his main squeeze “the underdog of all instruments” in a clip of his “Bohemian Rhapsody” cover on YouTube, adding, “I believe that if everyone played the ukulele, the world would be a much happier place.” His wonderfully sensitive but powerfully energetic cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral on YouTube several years ago. Shimabukuro, who also covers tunes by Schubert, Leonard Cohen, and Harold Arlen, plays traditional Hawaiian songs, too, as well as original compositions. Live in
Japan, his most recent album, was released in February. Shimabukuro takes the stage at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) on Sunday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. Get tickets ($29-$44) by calling 505-988-1234, or at www.ticketssantafe.com.
