Milt Kobayashi: Floating Clouds 2017, oil on canvas
Meyer Gallery, 225 Canyon Road, 505-983-1434 Milt Kobayashi employs techniques from Western painting traditions as well as those from 16th- and 17thcentury Japanese printmakers in his figurative portraits. Often depicted in cafés and other public places, his female figures seem poised and aloof, captured in candid everyday moments, but seemingly aware of being observed. In terms of subject and style, Kobayashi’s compositions recall the works of Diego Velázquez, James McNeill Whistler, and John Singer Sargent. The reception is at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 21.
