TAKE A MOMENT to ponder the Perseid meteor showers as they paint the night sky this weekend, and let them act as a wonderful symbolic arrival of new material, ideas, and possibilities from beyond our sphere. This is an ideal week to take a lazy family holiday with time to drift down a stream and paint landscapes and to straighten out any misunderstandings. For everything else, we’ll need patience and flexibility.

We can feel an urgency to get things done as the sun and Mars form a grand trine with Uranus and Saturn in motivating fire signs this weekend, but find the road full of twists and turns as thoughtful Mercury, now in Virgo, retrogrades Saturday through Sept. 6. This Mercury retrograde can slow us down, but it can also help us review where we’ve been and pick up old projects.

Odd technical and literary snafus multiply for the next few weeks. Untruths or misunderstandings from the past may get exposed. We are all offered a chance to clear problems from the past. Along with this stop-start motion created by the fire-sign grand trine hurrying us up while Mercury retrograde slows us down, we may feel abundant free-floating emotions as a tender Venus in Cancer runs the gamut of both positive and challenging aspects through the week. Over the weekend, our vulnerability and imaginations are pleasantly juiced as Venus trines intuitive Neptune. Tuesday brings discontent as Venus opposes Pluto. Midweek we can be emotional as Venus squares bountiful Jupiter. Just watch for a sudden desire to spend money.

FRIDAY, AUG. 11: Look for magical communications today as Venus trines Neptune. It helps to look for the best in people — an idealistic view can encourage them to rise to the occasion. There’s a spark in the air and in the heart on this flirtatious, combustible evening.

SATURDAY, AUG. 12: We can get easily excited about a new possibility or disagreement, or just feel warmhearted under an impatient Aries moon. We may also feel frustrated by delays and distractions as Mercury turns retrograde — which can leave us passionately running around in circles. Prioritize carefully.

SUNDAY, AUG. 13: Take unexpected side trips. Pad out your schedule and allow for puttering. People can be pleasantly uncooperative. Tonight, be soothed by healthy food and familiar jokes and people as the moon enters earthy Taurus. Be open to possibilities.

MONDAY, AUG. 14: Enjoy simple sensory pleasures and a chance to catch up; there’s no point in hurrying. If we feel a dose of stubbornness coming on, we might want to back off.

TUESDAY, AUG. 15: Watch emotional manipulations and mood swings this morning; we notice what is missing as Venus opposes Pluto. Don’t get caught up in the story. Positive changes pick up midday as the moon enters Cancer, though we need to keep expectations low and our attitude supportive.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16: It’s hard to get exactly what we want, but it’s sure tempting to try as Mars irritates willful Pluto this morning. Most of us will feel this as a minor irritation, which can inspire good work, but some will duck responsibility. It gets easier to communicate and cooperate later on as the moon trines Jupiter.

THURSDAY, AUG. 17: Venus squares Jupiter and the moon enters Cancer, which provides an abundant well of free-floating emotions. Honor other people’s feelings. Instead of becoming crabby, it helps to take time for nesting and self-care — then share with romantic and artistic abundance.
