Cheech and Chong light up the night at New Mexico Highlands University; Santa Fe Symphony performs Berlioz; and Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe gives a candlelit concert
The legendary pothead comedy duo of Cheech and Chong has been busy in the decades since they blazed onto the scene in 1978’s Up in
Smoke. Cheech Marin, who serves on the boards of the Smithsonian Latino Center and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, has been amassing a vast art collection and recently announced plans for a new Latino art center in Southern California. Meanwhile, Tommy Chong has made inroads as an activist for the decriminalization of marijuana. In 2004, Chong spent nine months in a California prison for shipping bongs through the internet, and he battled prostate cancer in 2012 with a cannabis oil protocol.
Now cancer-free and launching several of his own signature medicinal-marijuana products, Chong joins forces once more with Marin to perform an 18-and-over comedy show at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at New Mexico Highlands University’s Wilson Complex (1241 9th St., Las Vegas, 505-454-3238). Tickets are $35 and available at www .outhousetickets.com. — Molly Boyle
