For the love of Berlioz: Santa Fe Symphony
Santa Fe Symphony’s principal conductor, Guillermo Figueroa, professes abiding affection for the music of Berlioz. On Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m., the ensemble opens its concert at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) with that composer’s Le corsaire
Overture and concludes it with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1. In between, violinist Alexi Kenney appears as the soloist in two works: Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C major (a product of the composer’s early years at the Esterházy Court) and Dvorˇ ák’s Romance in F minor. Tickets ($20-$80) are available by calling 505-988-1234 or visiting www.ticketssantafe.org. — J.M.K.
