Young operatic phenoms: Santa Fe Opera Apprentices

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Singers in the competitive Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program come from as close by as Texas and as far away as Korea. Approximately 40 aspiring stars have spent the summer honing their crafts and expanding their lung capacities in the rarefied mountain air of Tesuque — practicing for hours on end and even performing onstage in the season’s biggest productions. Now these exceptionally talented young people bring high art to the streets in a free Bandstand concert on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 6:30 p.m. on the Plaza. Pan-Latin singer and bandleader Nacha Mendez plays at 7:45. For more information, visit santafebandstand .org. — J.L.
