Roseta Santiago: Dreamcatcher Journey 2018, oil on canvas
Blue Rain Gallery, 544 S. Guadalupe St., 505-954-9902 The gallery opens two exhibitions on Friday, July 27. Billy Schenck, a pioneer of Western Pop art, continues his cinematic exploration of the mythologized West in a series of new paintings. Schenck’s flat canvases satirize and pay homage to the romantic visions that have dominated the genre of Western painting. Roseta Santiago presents bold realist portraits and narrative scenes of the Americas in the exhibit The New World: A Sense of Place and Dreams. Santiago’s portraits capture the sense of the human spirit that animates her subjects. The reception for both shows is at 5 p.m.
