Singer-song­writ­ers Mary Gau­thier and El­iza Gilkyson have in­di­vid­u­ally per­fected the kind of haunt­ing mu­si­cal style that makes au­di­ences lean in — not be­cause their voices are soft, but be­cause their lyrics are im­por­tant and even dev­as­tat­ing. Gau­thier wrote the cuts on her 11th al­bum, with wounded vet­er­ans through the Song­writ­ingWith:Sol­diers pro­gram. Gilkyson’s most re­cent re­lease, con­tains spir­i­tu­ally minded songs that are not tra­di­tion­ally re­li­gious.
