Photo-eye Bookstore and Project Space, 1300-A3 Rufina Circle, 505-988-5152 Taking declassified photographs from the Los Alamos National Laboratories Photographic Archives and coloring them to resemble the hand-colored postcards produced in the 1950s, photographer Greg Mac Gregor recontextualizes the haunting imagery to create unsettling dystopian scenes that evoke our uneasy fascination with our atomic past. Similarly, Clay Lipsky’s Atomic Overlook series, in which he appropriates archival imagery of atomic bomb blasts and juxtaposes them with imagery of vacationing couples and individuals, is a powerful commentary on the nuclear legacy and the normalizing of unconscionable acts of warfare. Atomic Playground, an exhibit of both photographers’ works, is on view through Oct. 20 with a reception for the artists on Friday, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m.
