A celebration of Turkey with Latif Bolat and Serap Yilmaz;

Pasatiempo - - ON THE COVER - — Paul Weideman

On Saturday, Nov. 24, Gig Performance Space presents a music and dance event featuring Latif Bolat and Serap Yilmaz. Bolat specializes in Turkey’s ancient devotional music, singing and accompanying himself on the baglama, a long-necked lute, in a style that is soulful and spellbinding. His repertoire includes songs relating to the traditional Sufi practice known as zikr (remembrance of God). As Bolat establishes the appropriate musical atmosphere, Yilmaz dances in the mesmerizing manner of the whirling dervishes. The performance at Gig (1808 Second St.), begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20. Visit gigsantafe.com for details.
