Daniel Brice: P.P. Yellow/Black 2018, oil and acrylic on canvas over panel

Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art, 558 Canyon Road, 505-992-0711 For the exhibition Polaroid Paintings, Los Angeles-based painter Daniel Brice focused on a single subject: the image of a vase and flowers he shot with a Polaroid camera many years ago. The photograph was the impetus for a series of large and small paintings displaying varying degrees of abstraction. The suite of images references the tradition of the still-life painting, but Brice maintains a minimalist aesthetic, rendering each composition with large swaths of color and allowing a single hue to dominate the canvas. The show opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, Nov. 23.
