The show fea­tures more than 50 pho­to­graphs by Vac­caro, whose work has re­ceived a resur­gence of in­ter­est af­ter the pre­miere of the HBO Films doc­u­men­tary Un­der­fire: The Un­told Story of Pri­vate First Class Tony Vac­caro in 2016. As an in­fantry­man and un­of­fi­cial com­bat pho­tog­ra­pher, Vac­caro cap­tured as­pects of World War II in in­ti­mate de­tail. He went on to be­come a cel­e­brated fash­ion and life­style pho­tog­ra­pher. The ex­hibit, which co­in­cides with Vac­caro’s ninety-sixth birth­day on Dec. 20, in­cludes rarely seen works made by the pho­tog­ra­pher dur­ing the war.
