Big time sensuality: The Marías

Get your sultry groove on to the retro jazz surf-funk offerings of The Marías, a Los Angeles-based band steeped in ’70s-era sonic nostalgia. The first-name-only lead singer — María — is high-pitched yet full-throated, both ghostly and baby-voiced, and their songs are danceable in a loose-limbed, shoegazey way. The Marías, now on tour with their second album, Superclean Vol. II (2018), play at Meow Wolf (1352 Rufina Circle) at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Doors to the all-ages show open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 on the day of the show, afe.meowwolf.c nnifer Levin

Lite-Brite nights: GLOW at the Botanical Garden

One of the best things about winter in the high desert is that nighttime is temperate enough to roam around outdoors but the air still has enough bite to turn a warm beverage into a festive treat. You can bundle up and sip cider in December at GLOW – Cosmic Nights at Santa Fe Botanical Garden (715 Camino Lejo), a nightly twinkle-lights festival with refreshments and live music, open 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, through Dec. 31 (except for Dec. 24 and 25). Bands include Luna Llena, The Gruve, Shiners Jazz Club, The Parson Sisters, Nohe y Sus Santos, and Controlled Burn. General admission is $10, free for children under 12.
