Sheryl Zacharia, Improvisation #5 (2019), ceramic sculpture
Winterowd Fine Art, 701 Canyon Road, 505-992-8878 The gallery pairs two artists whose work reflects an optimistic spirit through their vibrant, colorful use of playful abstraction. Don Quade’s mixedmedia paintings are nature-inspired compositions that reflect the moods and tones of the seasons. He infuses each composition with organic forms that range from the abstract to the representational. Sculptor Sheryl Zacharia also seeks inspiration in nature, as well as in the human form, ancient and contemporary art, and more. Her ceramic works are finished with a tapestry of surface pattern, color, and texture. “The intention of my art is not to tell a story, but to create objects that influence and enhance the space around them, evoking an emotional response,” she said in a statement. Visual Poetry, an exhibit of their work, opens with a 4:30 p.m. artists’ talk and 5 p.m. reception on Friday, Sept. 6, and is on view through Sept. 19.
