Linda Stojak, Untitled (2019), oil on canvas
LewAllen Galleries, 1613 Paseo de Peralta, 505-988-3250, lewallengalleries.com The anonymity of the female figures that dominate painter Linda Stojak’s haunting, spare compositions, resonate with a sense of universality. They represent no one, specifically, but capture aspects of the female experience as a whole, such as its unknown or forgotten histories. Ghostly, amorphous forms recede into their surroundings and are rendered with a minimal amount of detail. “My paintings are about being born, separation, touching, breathing, dying, loss, time, silence, waiting,” she says. “I want to keep images suggestively simple …” Look Away, a show of her recent work, opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, Oct. 25. The exhibit is on view through Nov. 30.
