FORD’S UPCOMiNG SUPeR DUtY TesTeD WiTH NeW ‘ViRTUAL MOUNTAiN’ TRAileR

Pasmag (USA) - - I SSUE PREVIEW -

Testing for the upcoming 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup required a new ‘drag sled’ that simulates the pull of a heavy trailer up steep mountain grades, since the old sled didn’t sufficiently challenge the more powerful new F-Series.

So Ford created a steeper and tougher ‘virtual mountain’ to use during hot weather testing in areas of Arizona that didn’t provide enough of the real kind, or that allowed Ford to simulate mountain grades in various areas of its test facility.

The sled simulates steep grades by creating drag against the prototype truck, with the new sled providing up to maximum ‘gravity pull’ of 5,620 pounds. That may not sound like that much for a heavy duty pickup, but it’s 181 percent increase in resistance compared to the old one.
