WEISTEC ENGINEERING AND OPTIMA BATTERIES SET THEIR SIGHTS ON MERCEDES-BENZ WORLD RECORD
THE 275 DRAG RADIAL CLASS IN THE QUARTER-MILE IS A SEGMENT THAT IS TYPICALLY DOMINATED BY DOMESTIC VEHICLES, BUT MIKE WEISS, OPTIMA PowerPro Ambassador and President of Weistec Engineering, is looking to change that. Having previously broke the world record for quickest Mercedes-Benz in the quarter-mile with a Weistec superchargerd M156 6.2L V8 powered 2008 CLK63 AMG, the plan this time around is to switch to twin-turbos and go the distance with more than 2,000 horsepower. “Although this engine came from the factory naturally aspirated, Weistec's fame came from engineering and developing the first ever supercharger unit for this platform,” says Weiss. “Although we broke the world record for the quickest and fastest Mercedes Benz in the 1/4 mile with our supercharger mated to the AMG M156 in May of 2014, we decided to take the twin turbo route for our new race car.” Mike and his team have their sights set on a 6-second quarter-mile, so keep an eye out for this beast at Street Car Super Nationals in St. Louis on August 1, 2018, and at NHRA events throughout the season. Best of luck, guys!
