Lincoln’s Mayer named conference player of the year

Lindsey Mayer’s strong junior season at Fordham University did not gone unnoticed by Atlantic 10 softball officials.

The Fordham softball team, fresh off clinching the program’s fourth-ever A10 regular season title, heard its name called quite a bit when postseason awards were announced earlier this week. Among the recipients was Mayer, the Lincoln native who was named the conference’s Player of the Year.

Mayer, the Rams’ third baseman and one of three pitchers, enjoyed a tremendous season, especially in conference play, to garner her first A-10 postseason award. The junior batted .354 over the season, ranking second in the league with 41 RBIs, but has exploded since the start of conference play with a .426 batting average and a league-leading 22 RBI, while finishing in the top five in hits and doubles.

After the loss of one of Fordham’s key pitchers in early April, Mayer stepped into the circle and compiled a 60 record, two saves, and a 3.21 ERA in 43.2 innings. Mayer earned her lone Player of the Week award after factoring into five of six victories, totaling a 3-0 record and both saves with 17 strikeouts in 14 innings, while also chipping in a .632 average, a home run, and seven RBIs for good measure.

A member of Lincoln’s back-to-back Division I softball titles (2012-13), Mayer also earned First Team AllConference and All-Academic honors. She became the fifth Ram to be named A-10 Player of the Year and the first since Elise Fortier in 2014.
