CF tops No­vans

Led by Ana De Pina, the Cen­tral Falls girls vol­ley­ball team over­came Woonsocket in five games Fri­day.

WOONSOCKET — Cen­tral Falls se­nior mid­dle Ana De Pina had a match-high 21 kills and 12 blocks, while se­nior out­side hit­ter Lil­iana Perez added 19 digs, five kills and five aces to lead the War­riors to a thrilling 19-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10 Di­vi­sion II road vic­tory over Woonsocket Fri­day night.

Woonsocket (1-11 Di­vi­sion II) grabbed the first two games be­hind im­pres­sive serv­ing and the play of mid­dle hit­ter Han­nah Moyen (six kills, four blocks and eight digs) and se­nior out­side hit­ter Maddy Hereth (nine digs and five aces).

“We just couldn’t fin­ish,” Woonsocket coach Wendy Mooney said. “We were up 9-2 in the third game and we con­tin­ued to lead, but they just chipped away and won the game. We served re­ally hard in the first two games, but then we started to serve ten­ta­tively when they took the lead later in the match.”

Cen­tral Falls (4-8 Di­vi­sion II) also re­ceived 34 digs from Yas­mine Perez. The War­riors will look for their third straight win Mon­day at home to Sc­i­t­u­ate, while the Villa No­vans host Char­iho Mon­day and Ex­eter-West Green­wich Tues­day.
