CF tops Novans
Led by Ana De Pina, the Central Falls girls volleyball team overcame Woonsocket in five games Friday.
WOONSOCKET — Central Falls senior middle Ana De Pina had a match-high 21 kills and 12 blocks, while senior outside hitter Liliana Perez added 19 digs, five kills and five aces to lead the Warriors to a thrilling 19-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10 Division II road victory over Woonsocket Friday night.
Woonsocket (1-11 Division II) grabbed the first two games behind impressive serving and the play of middle hitter Hannah Moyen (six kills, four blocks and eight digs) and senior outside hitter Maddy Hereth (nine digs and five aces).
“We just couldn’t finish,” Woonsocket coach Wendy Mooney said. “We were up 9-2 in the third game and we continued to lead, but they just chipped away and won the game. We served really hard in the first two games, but then we started to serve tentatively when they took the lead later in the match.”
Central Falls (4-8 Division II) also received 34 digs from Yasmine Perez. The Warriors will look for their third straight win Monday at home to Scituate, while the Villa Novans host Chariho Monday and Exeter-West Greenwich Tuesday.
