Po­lice: 2 dead in 4-car, wrong-way crash on I-495

LAWRENCE (AP) — State po­lice say two peo­ple have died in a wrong-way crash on a Mas­sachusetts high­way.

Po­lice say four ve­hi­cles were in­volved in the crash shortly be­fore noon Wed­nes­day on In­ter­state 495 north­bound at the An­dover-Lawrence line.

Po­lice say for rea­sons still un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion, a woman driv­ing a ve­hi­cle south on the high­way crossed the me­dian into the north­bound lanes, sideswiped a pickup truck, then struck a Honda Pi­lot headon be­fore strik­ing a third ve­hi­cle.

The driver of the wrong-way ve­hi­cle, a 38-year-old Lawrence woman, died. A pas­sen­ger in the Pi­lot, a 56-year-old Lawrence man, also died. All north­bound lanes of the high­way were closed dur­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
