Coun­selors re­spond to school shoot­ing

LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — Coun­selors will be avail­able to stu­dents and staff at Lawrence High School strug­gling with news that a fresh­man girl at the school was shot in the head late last week.

The Ea­gle-Tri­bune re­ports that school Prin­ci­pal Michael Fi­ato told par­ents to “stay in close com­mu­ni­ca­tion” with their chil­dren as they process the news and con­tact a health care provider if needed.

Po­lice say a 16-year-old girl was shot in a car driven by a 20-year-old man at about 9 p.m. Fri­day.

Po­lice say the girl may have been go­ing to con­front an­other girl.

Po­lice are search­ing for the boyfriend of the mother of the other girl.

The vic­tim was driven to Lawrence Gen­eral Hospi­tal, and then trans­ferred to a hospi­tal in Bos­ton in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.
