Counselors respond to school shooting
LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — Counselors will be available to students and staff at Lawrence High School struggling with news that a freshman girl at the school was shot in the head late last week.
The Eagle-Tribune reports that school Principal Michael Fiato told parents to “stay in close communication” with their children as they process the news and contact a health care provider if needed.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was shot in a car driven by a 20-year-old man at about 9 p.m. Friday.
Police say the girl may have been going to confront another girl.
Police are searching for the boyfriend of the mother of the other girl.
The victim was driven to Lawrence General Hospital, and then transferred to a hospital in Boston in critical condition.
