Tommy Ingham laced two doubles and a single and drove in four runs, but it was not enough as Pawtucket West jumped into a two-way tie for third place with Saint Raphael Academy in the Eastern Division by topping city rival Pawtucket East 6-4 at McCoy Stadium. Rod Scott and Rene Bollingier each scored two runs and Gordon Holmes drove in two tallies for the Rangers. It was the third straight win for West against two defeats, while the Redjackets dropped their third loss in six starts.

Billy Donnelly’s two-run double was the key hit in a Pawtucket Vocational four-run fifth inning that propelled the hustling Hawks to a 4-2 triumph over Classical. Winning pitcher Don Danowski allowed seven hits (but was tough in the clutch), fanned nine and walked six. The unbeaten Vokes are now atop the Western Division with a 4-0 start.

Marc Shaffer’s three field event victories sparked Pawtucket West to a 79-55 win over Saint Raphael Academy to claim the City of Pawtucket Outdoor Track Classic Championship. Shaffer took the shot put (44-4), discus (123-5) and the hammer, which he set the school record with a throw of 150-feet, 5-inches. Bob Turcotte and Ben Roderick were double winners for the Rangers. Turcotte shattered the school and track record in the 440-yard dash with a time of 53.3 and took the 100 in 10.6, while Roderick captured the high jump (5-10) and the javelin (130-7).
