Cheerleaders are grateful

-

The Pea Ridge cheerleaders had a very successful fundraising weekend. They hosted a dress sale as well as a chili luncheon. A big thank you goes to the following: Old Towne Cleaners of Bentonville, The Times of Northeast Benton County, Arvest of Pea Ridge, Pea Ridge Youth Softball, Pea Ridge Optimist Club, First Baptist Church of Pea Ridge, Bentonville Butcher and Deli, all dress donators, cheer parents, Johnnie Johnson and Cheryl Tillman. ist today. Plus, what would we do without the IRS?

By fair share, I mean the very wealthy who pay no or very little tax due to loopholes in the current tax codes pony up a little more of their amassed wealth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not for income redistribution, I’m for people like Mitt Romney paying more than 15 percent (the lowest tax bracket) on the multimillions he takes in every year. My guess is that most, if not all, multi-millionaires like Romney pay something like 15 percent as well. The Republicans argue that these multi-millionaires are “job creators.” Bunk.

A good number of them, especially in the corporate world, are job eliminators. They are paid according to how they can improve the bottom line and often that means cutting jobs. I saw this happen all too often when I was in the corporate world. Don’t misunderstand me, there are some very wealthy job creators but the Republican line that to tax them at a higher (and fairer rate) would result in less jobs is pure bull. One thing the Republicans are good at is devising a statement and then throwing it out repeatedly. “Job creators” is one of them. I’m slamming the Republicans on this issue but I don’t have any use for the Democrats either. A third party alternative is sorely needed but that’s another story.

So, the next time you hear a Republican throw out “job creators” when speaking of the very wealthy, ask him or her to name a few. nor; First Baptist Christian School, Rogers; Bible Missionary Church, Rogers; The Sophisticated Ladies; First Baptist children’s choir (a lot of work went into that); Downtown Boys; Pea Ridge Jazz Band; children carolers and college carolers; Community Presbyterian carolers; Pea Ridge third-graders; Girl Scout Troop No. 553, with gifts; Pea Ridge Kindergarten class, wow, what a crowd (good parents, teachers and future); Freedom Freewill Baptist Church and pastor Spurlock, Garfield, bringing gifts; Debbie’s Pharmacy, Rogers; Autumn Place; Bella Vista Community Church; and others who brought gifts and didn’t leave their names.

A man came door-todoor sharing Christmas joy with candy canes. I may have missed some, I thank you, too! It was a very joyful season. Thank you so much!
